In Memoriam–Michael Paul Beaudoin of Kerr/Envista

DTA extends its condolences to the Kerr/Envista families for the loss of Michael Paul Beaudoin.

The dental industry community recently lost a great colleague, partner, ambassador, and friend. After a prolonged battle with cancer, Michael Paul Beaudoin passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023. Mike leaves behind his wife Laura of 37 years, two beautiful
children and a granddaughter, who was an especially bright light in his life.

Mike began his dental career over 30 years ago in 1990, as a field sales person in Colorado, with Ormco orthodontics, part of the former Sybron Dental group. Immediately successful, he earned top Sales Person of the Year honors twice in his first three
years, prior to being promoted to the Sales Operations Manager at Kerr in 1993. Over the next 20 years, Mike saw numerous roles of increasing responsibility rising to the position of VP of Corporate Accounts in North America. Over the span of
his career, Mike’s unforgettable smile, contagious positive energy and commitment to serving his customers won him friends and fans across the industry among his dealer customers, industry peers and within Kerr/Envista.

“Yes, we were all devastated by the news. Mike called on NDC for years and always had respect and consideration for the independent distributors. As stated in his obituary, his smile was contagious! He often came to see us in Nashville with his boots and cowboy hat!” –Lori Paulson, NDC.

“Mike was one of the first people I met when I started working at Kerr 29 years ago. Mike was one of the people I interviewed with–we ended up playing Nerf basketball in his office as he interviewed me with great questions to see if I would be a good fit for the Kerr culture. This typified what Mike was all about; a keen awareness for business while also being light-hearted, quick to praise, slow to anger and always with a smile. Mike was a gentleman’s gentleman – extremely respectful of others at all times and a kind man while also being strong. He will be missed.” –Ed Shellard, United Concordia.

“Mike was a good friend. I was introduced to him upon joining Danaher’s dental platform in 2015 and was taken by how committed, insightful, collaborative, and genuine he was. Everyone liked him. I remember the day he handed in his resignation, convinced that he would be a burden to the organization if he was unable to balance his work and health. I encouraged him to stay–he was a valuable member of our team and I wanted to make sure he knew we would be here for him. He stayed for 4 more years. Even after he retired, he never stopped caring about us and this industry. Mike had a heart of gold and we will miss him.” –Amir Aghdaei, Envista Dental.

For those wishing to make a gift in Mike’s honor, the Beaudoin family would welcome your support by either contributing to the American Cancer Society, or The Leonard Cancer Institute at Mission Hospital.

His legacy is deeply embedded in the fabric of Atlanta Dental through his contributions to the company’s culture and success.

David Blackshear and his partner Bill Gorman completed the transition of ownership and leadership of Atlanta Dental in 2008 to now over 30 employee-owners. He blessed us all with his wisdom and always focused on doing the “right thing” for our customers, employees and vendor partners. He will be missed by those that have known or worked with him, and the culture he helped establish will live on through all the lives he impacted.

Mr. Blackshear was a beloved leader and mentor who was respected by all who had interaction with him. His emphasis on care, teamwork and empowerment left a lasting mark, and many employees have remained at the company for 20, even up to 50 years, thanks to the strong culture of “business family” that continues still today.

Throughout his career, Mr. Blackshear received numerous honors for his leadership, including Chairman of the Board of ADC, the Dental Distributor Hall of Fame, President of the American Dental Trade Association, the Atlanta Rotary Club and band leader of the Atlanta Seventeen (Big Band Music). As one of our country’s “Greatest Generation”, he had a distinguished record serving our country as a navigator on a B-24 bomber in the Pacific Theater of WWll. Mr. Blackshear’s patriotism and love of our country never wavered.

David Blackshear was born in Atlanta in 1924 and attended Boy's High before enrolling at Georgia Tech. After his freshman year, his sense of duty led him to enlist in the US Army Air Corp. After the war he returned to Atlanta and finished his education at Georgia Tech, graduating with “The Class of WWII”. After graduation, Mr. Blackshear joined Atlanta Dental to begin his long and distinguished career. During this time, he met the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Mary Virginia (“Sis”) Stribling. Together they had 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Family has always been a centerpiece of his love and affection.

We will miss you, Mr. Blackshear.
